Tomorrow starts our Sight Word Challenge! This year’s theme is Blast Off - Sight Word Challenge! Students kindergarten through 5th grade are invited to participate in the challenge Monday - Thursday from 7:00-7:30 in the high school gym!
Families should have received a list of the sight words at Parent Teacher Conferences. We ask that your child begins practicing these words at home in addition to their regular classroom work. These words are sight words, meaning that they are words that students should be able to read quickly without needing time to sound them out. This is an activity to help promote reading fluency and comprehension skills.
Students who participated in the Sight Word Challenge last year will be able to begin where they left off. If your child has not previously done the Sight Word Challenge, he or she will begin at Kindergarten List 1.
If a student masters a list, they will earn a candy gumball and once they master an entire grade level’s list, they will move their astronaut up on our hallway rocket ship. This will be on display in our hallway for students to see. Title I Reading's goal is to have all students master up to their grade level list, and beyond for our students that are already above grade level. If you have any questions, please contact Miss Josie Sloan at jsloan@crockerschools.org.
